This January, 27 West African fellows met in Niamey, Niger for an intensive training to kick off the 4th edition of the Sahel Leadership Program. This top group of family planning, girls education and women’s empowerment professionals were chosen for their track record of leadership and their commitment to professional development in order to increase their impact in the region. Over the course of the week, expert facilitators from Burkina Faso, Senegal, the DRC and Niger led skill-building sessions on targeted communications, advocacy, and project scale up to enhance fellow’s capacity to implement sustainable solutions across the region. Fellows also learned more the link between rapid population growth and development, including how they can contribute to the demographic transition within their fields of work.
